things and stuff

Tomorrow Alex will be coming here for a visit. He's been really digging his car rides lately, so we figured he wouldn't mind the long drive to see us. I hope he's in a great mood and will stay awhile!

He had an appt with the neurosurgeon on Wednesday. Just a little get to know you thing in case we ever find ourselves in the situation where we need to remove the SEGA. He went over the most recent scan, showing us that the ventricles look great and haven't been blocked at all. I asked if it were possible for the SEGA to be kind of floating around and sometimes blocking, but he said that they actually grow under the brain's membrane, so they are pretty solid and have no way of dangling/floating around. That was good to know. He also said that there was no way to tell by looking at an MRI whether he had pressure in his brain...that the only way to do that (other than the invasive way of going in to look) is with an appt with the ophthalmologist. He'll get his eyes dilated, and hopefully the doctor will be able to take a look in his eyes to look for evidence of pressure. He felt that if pressure were what was bothering Alex to where he was hitting, we'd mostly be seeing it in the mornings, and he likely would be vomiting as well. So, not likely, but definitely something to rule out. Alex never seems to do what's "likely"!

Oh, and originally we were told the SEGA size was unchanged from his previous scan, however the neurosurgeon said when they looked at it again that morning before our appt, it looked like it might have been a teeny bit smaller. I'm wondering if we should increase the dose, as he's on such a small amount right now, and tolerating it really well. Gotta remember to call the neurologist next week to see about that.

A week from Monday we'll be starting our Disneyland trip! As soon as Ben gets home from school, we'll be heading to a hotel in Portland for the night, then getting up bright and early the next morning for our flight to Anaheim. Won't be home till Saturday. Can't wait!
