camping

We met up with some old friends at the coast for some camping this past weekend. Had fun, despite the annoying people we had around us at the campground.

The first night, the people on the left of us arrived at about 9:30pm (after we were trying to settle down to sleep) and made a bunch of noise while setting up. I think I didn't get to sleep until 11:30 or midnight. Then woke at 4am to the sound of a little kid crying a few tents down, and finally woke for the day when kid's family decided to get up at 5am and start chopping wood for their morning fire.

The second night, the people to the right of us arrived at around 10:30pm and were even louder. After yelling and bumping around getting their RV situated just so, they hollered over to some friends a few campsites away asking if they wanted a cocktail, to which the friends hollered back "Sure!" with a list of all the different types of alcohol they had with them. C'mon! Quiet time is 10pm. People are all in their tents trying to sleep. Urgh!

I actually slept pretty well that second night after using some of the earplugs Jeremy brought. Jeremy wasn't so lucky, and after two nights of very little sleep, we decided to leave early. We packed up our stuff, but stayed until after dinner so Ben could keep playing with his friends he doesn't get to see very often anymore.

Some of the good points to our trip: finding a little windbreak someone made with driftwood to hide behind on the super windy beach, spending time with our friends and together as a family, all those s'mores, and yummy breakfasts (french toast and bacon the first morning, and bacon and eggs the second) and dinners.

Hopefully Jeremy will be willing to try again. Next year we'll be heading to Brookings, which is a farther drive for us. Since we'll have a baby with us, we'll be getting a yurt to stay in.
